Detractors might dismiss Time Without Consequence as the work of a Cat Stevens for the Garden State generation, but there's a always a place for hushed intimacy and delicate folk-pop singer/songwriters, and Alexi Murdoch fills the bill without the mewling self-absorption of the emo contingent.
Murdoch's murmuring, Drake-like vocals and John Martyn-style acoustic guitar are at the forefront of the album, with only the most minimal accompaniment. The sound sometimes has remnants of blues guitar, yet it isn't really blues. Alexi Murdoch has a way of harmonizing on his guitar that really grabs me. It's not the music genre I would normally listen to, but it has a certain sound and feel to it that I find very appealling and relaxing.
I read other reviews about it, decided to go for it. Like others, most likely, I first heard the song "Breathe" on an episode of Stargate Universe, loved it, went on an internet search, and found this cd.
